About the rainy season
November 18th, 2008
Rainy season is definitely here. We had a huge accident last night when there is a big leak on the roof above the kitchen so we came home to a really wet and flooded kitchen ( apparently my neighbor’s bunga pepaya had been flying to our roof and clog the drain pipe so when it rains, the water flooded the pipe). I saw the sky this morning and only found gray cloud scattered around. My desk in office overlooked the main street and just now I noticed people hurried to avoid rain drops.
I wonder where did the sun go? Can we have it at least couple of hours in the morning until it dissapears to warm other parts of the earth? For an Asian who actually should feel blessed for having regular sun shine all year long, oddly I still feel a pang of sadness everytime the sky looks like when the rain about to pour.
Can’t we have this blue sky all year long?

Seeing the gray sky and missing the sun remind me that just little more than a month ago, at this exact hour, I was enjoying the abundant sunshine in a perfect sandy beach.
I wish to come back. Of course with less of tanned skin though as my skin need around 2 weeks to recuperate and back to its original tone.
I went to Indonesia Book Fair 2008
November 15th, 2008
I had been planning to go to Indonesia Book Fair 2008 which is held in JCC, since I read the notification about it everywhere in cyber world. I even made mental note that I am going to go after work hours at weekdays as based on my past Indonesia Book Fairs, visiting the book fair on weekend just makes me grumpy for unable to browse and search book conveniently.
I went there alone last night after work. My work place is located not too far from JCC so despite of the drizzle and maddening traffic jam I arrived safe and sound around 6.45 PM.
The place was so huge and thankfully was not as crowded as I imagined it would be. Rummaging through book wagons at Java Books, Periplus and Aksara was easy and I was out with some books I had been wanted since forever.
I browsed through shelves at Grasindo, Kompas and Gramedia but I couldn’t find Paris Pandora by Fira Basuki though there was a poster of the book. The booth attendee said they didn’t carry it and apologized profusely to me. It was ok actually, I assumed that the publisher did not want to give price off of new released books.
Few days ago I recieved a text message from Zahra, Dastan Publisher, informed me that I can get extra 10% discount if I show it when I purchase books from the publisher at the bookfair. I did show it and got extra discount for already discounted book. The book was Mr Monk Goes to Hawaii. I am a huge fan of Adrian Monk. Maybe because I think I have tiny bit of obsessive compulsive disorder too.
I guess I went to every booth. Bought very interesting books from Syamil Publisher and took a peek to every books published by Balai Pustaka. I even sat down to see a talkshow by Tiga Serangkai Publisher. Went home around 8.30 PM by bus because I am now 300 thousand rupiah poorer while the payday is not until another 2 weeks. So no budget for cab for the rest of the month. I arrived at home around 9.45 - I wonder why the traffic was so bad even though it was late at night - .
I read couple of pages of one of the books before I fell asleep. I am quite proud with the bargains I got last night. Can’t wait to read them all!
Will talk about the books I purchased latter on.
weekend passed oh so fast
November 11th, 2008
How’s your weekend? Mine was tiringly hectic, busy, resulted in cramp legs, sore throat due to talking and barking too much to too many people. I had to be a captain and supervise spg’s and spb’s for a big event my office held that invited thousands of people. A duty that was totally unrelated to my position at the office.
And yes, yikes. I am a loner, I mostly hate crowd or be in crowd so imagine what I felt when I faced those people. But I braved in thinking that no one will ever think I can’t work.
Thank God it is over now. It was a huge success and definetely something to be proud of. I took a day off yesterday, slept almost the whole day, browsed the Internet by my cellphone (I am apparently an Internet junkie! ), and catched up my reading. I was thinking to have reflexology to help the back pain and sore legs because standing too long, but yesterday the rain poured so hard I rather lied down and read.
Back to my desk now, still writing about the next article, preparing myself to continue the book project and welcoming the weekly deadlines that lingering in my mind.
But my back is still hurt.

I am hopeful someday presidential election in this country will have the same effectiveness and result in much hope and euphoria as USA experienced.
Yay Barry!
Series of illnesses
November 3rd, 2008
This is going to be a string of illnesses I got since two weeks ago. Perfectly aware that it’s going to be a boring entry but I am going to use it as a recap of my health condition.
On Sunday two weeks ago, my uncle, whom we spent three days vacation with, called my mother asked if me and my sister got a bad cought as he did. He probably got somewhere along the vacation. Few hours after he called, I caught the bugs. I started feeling okay in the morning, even went to halal bihalal, had a late lunch with the big family, until I felt my throat sore so bad and couldn’t stop coughing at night.
I drank lots of sweet lo han kuo infussion, litres and litres of warm water and took extra multivitamins to prevent it from getting worse but I knew that what I really needed was taking a rest. I had a busy week but I enjoyed it until my body complained by getting sick. I managed to work the next day but the cough was getting worse and my temperature raised. I called sick the next day and told my leader that I would work from home but I actually slept the whole day and thankfully woke up feeling better.
Two days after it , I had two days of bad gastritis. It was started nearly in the middle of the night. Must be because of the fries or something I ate or did not eat. It was so bad that Mylanta can’t help to ease the pain. I had chew huge Promag DA pills which tasted like evil chalk combined with tooth paste to help me to at least stood straight and passed the night without writhing in pain and curling up like a cooked shrimp. Still I managed to work and sat during the work hours grinding my teeth due to the pain.
Ate mostly crackers and water until my mother made nasi tim to ease my indigestion system.
The cough is almost gone now but some phelgm. The gastritis I believe has gone away.
challenging myself
October 25th, 2008
I know that I am supposed to post about the vacation I took almost 2 weeks ago but I am inspired by this blog. I am thinking to do same and challenge my self to see if I can start and maintain healthy lifestyle. One problem is while Kim loves to exercise, I on the other hand not too much, to avoid the word “lazy”. The only daily exercise I do everyday is 10 minutes walk from KRL station to Slipi bawah to catch Kopaja, and another 10 minutes - sometimes even 5 minutes - walk on the way home. My plan to wake up at 5 then jog for an hour everyday seems go to the drain. Once I wake up in the morning then proceed to sholat subuh, I mostly slump back to my bed.
So here it goes. Minus the pictures as my camera is too bulky to carry around.
My breakfast was 2 batagor my mom bought from Bandung (it was Kingsley Batagor) and a mug of milo. 10 o’clock snack was oatmeal with a date, sliced manggo and apple.
Lunch today was a slice of picnic rolls (hard boiled egg, sausage wrapped in pastry), a manggo, and apple. My afternoon snack was an orange and another slice of picnic roll.
My diner was around 3 tablespoons of rice and a fried tofu. I actually could make it through the night without dinner but I saw tofu on the diner table and thought that maybe a piece won’t matter.
Let’s see how long I can do this.
